I laugh at all these scholars who want to cut spending yet we somehow 'sweep under the rug' the 1/2 TRILLION we spend on the military, 10 times what anyone else spends EVERY F^^^$$ING YEAR.
Much of this tax money is doled out to private corporations, the 'outsourcing' of our military.
Worried about debt, cut the fat and the corporate welfare of the military.
Haven't they realized that oil companies have endangered our environment by way too many oil spills that were viewed by the perpetrator as, "Oh well!" That's why we don't want nor can ill afford another from this proposed pipeline? Well, of course that doesn't matter to ALEC who seem to support any and all legislation that absolves oil companies and many other huge corporations of any harm they might to our world.
There I said it, 'ALEC," "ALEC," "ALEC." Three times and their armies of non-alec speak have not arrived at my door demanding that I stop!. They are nothing but a bunch of well-moneyed dumb-alecs who think they own the right to adversely influence the congress in my state to not represent us. Better ask future election hopeful candidates that if they belong to or even vaguely associated with the dumb-alecs that you will not vote for them.
I find this incessant hysteria about the Kochs insane. They are businessmen. They have made themselves wealthy by producing goods and services that others voluntarily choose to buy. Unlike government, there is no coercion. If you don't want to buy their refined oil products, then don't drive a car, ride a bus, fly a plane, or heat your home. If you don't want to use their Georgia Pacific paper products, then buy another brand. Or buy no brand at all. If you are one of the 50,000 or so employees who they employ to produce the stuff their customers voluntarily choose to buy, and you are not pleased by your salary and benefits like health insurance and pension plans, then find another employer. Start your own business. Or stay home.
If they buy the Trib out of bankruptcy, it will be a business deal. The balance sheet will be cleaner and the debt burden lighter. Presumably it will be cash flow positive. To succeed, as with all business ventures, the managers and editors they employ MUST provide a product that people voluntarily choose to buy - whether it is a subscription to the paper or a spot to display advertising. Those editors will publish local, regional, and national news that they believe their customers value. Will they personally write op-eds that convey their point of view? Perhaps. Perhaps not. It's not clear to me that the goal is anything other than a business venture. But if they do publish op-eds that convey their libertarian and/or conservative leanings, so what? The readers who are so close minded to opinions they don't agree with can choose not to read. Or choose to cancel the subscription. It's how freedom works.
Idiot. Not everyone in WI voted for these slime balls. Nearly half the state is opposed to the current government and is not happy with the way things are progressing. We're working to change things, but the Republican money machine makes it difficult.
The head of the EPA denies that they kill the bees he had his associate email me a PILE of refrences.
It is a very corrupt or weak or unaware organization.
The majority of people in WI were fooled into voting for Walker in 2010, based on painting a dark picture of Gov. Doyle. The recall vote of Walker didn't work simply because the majority of voters voted against the recall process, and didn't want it to be used as the norm against legislation. In other words, the majority didn't support Walker, they just opposed the recall. Many, many people stated "let him (Walker) complete his 4 years, and then we'll get rid of him." And that is what will happen in 2014, given Walker has nothing positive to put on his resume: he did not balance the budget (refinanced $1 billion and made the middle class pay), he pushed charter / voucher schools (which have been proven to fall far behind public schools), he's attacked voters' rights (which everyone sees as just plain stupid given there is no voter fraud), he's lost taxpayers' money with his failed investment scheme, he escaped criminal charges for his time in Milwaukee County by spending enough money, he's tried to kill education and dismiss the great public teachers (to create more uneducated Republican voters), and worst of all Walker has removed over $2 billion dollars from the WI economy with his failed Act10 (which has caused hundreds of thousands of public workers to cut back spending, and thus it's killed businesses and lost jobs in WI). Walker will be voted out in 2014... lesson learned by those easily fooled.
"This comprehensive plan will bring valuable insights into the area of bee health, whereas a ban on neonicotinoids would simply close the door to understanding the problem," Actually a ban would get right to the bottom of the problem. If they are proven safe they can be re introduced.
I'm sure that the errors discredit the entire work. What is debt, but money owed!! Why should it matter how much and how long you owe it and how fast you grow it, or how credit worthy the borrower is! Krugman et. all certainly understand this better than the rest of us. When you point out that you can't continue on this path of debt creation to stimulate jobs, because govt. created jobs are paid for by taxes paid by private business and private workers, and that public sector workers are paid for from the same taxes, and that stimulus spending is paid for by those same taxes, eventually! And when you eventually stop the stimulus most of those jobs disappear and you are still stuck with the debt, and as your debt grows eventually your interest rates to pay back from foreign borrowers rises because of the risk due to your rising debt( who would lend to anyone with such debt without greater compensation) or in the case of the Fed buying our debt it still has to be paid back(it actually does not just dissappear like Krugman would have us believe)(if that were so, why stop with $16 trillion, why don't we become the richest country in world history, just print $16 quadrillion)(oh, I forgot,I think it devaules your currency, you know, when that $2 you paid for that bread now costs $20, or that $80,000 BMW now costs $800,000)( or that house you bought that Barney and Chris said you deserve and you had no way to pay for but you have a right to actually causes someone else to work much harder to pay for because now that Fannie & Freddie take the loan and they are bankrupt and those that PAY TAXES are stuck paying back, and heck they are not even your relative so you don't have to listen to them moan and complain about the upkeep). Oh and why worry, you'll probably be gone, when the crash finally comes, its just our children who will be stuck with the debt, they can figure it out. Ah, we are this generation, and we just care about ourselves.
When a partisan linked firm called Command Central (that uses the eye in the pyramid as their logo nonetheless) run by a person who was fired from their previous job for refusing to take an ethics exam controlls all the voting machines (many of which leave no paper trail), it is foolish to assume that it is "the people" voting these criminals in.
I still find it amazing that many on the right still claim it was people being bused in from illionios, there was easily enough signatures for recall. Walker's saving grace was that many people didn't beleive that it should be done by recall, to claim its cause how popular Walker is a lie. Check his approval ratings now and when the recalled happened, neither were on the positve side.
The only people who think the protesters were mostly bused in from out of state are those who did not attend the protests and interact with the protesters. They were misinformed by Walker's corrupt government and chose to believe the lies. That is why Walker won the recall. He lied with TV ads for 6 months saying everything's fine, while we plunged from near the top in job creation to near the bottom and our school class sizes increased. And I still can't believe how many people don't know that several people were charged with felonies for spending their public employee time helping Walker, their boss in Milwaukee, campaign for governor. Somehow they set up a secret email system (read the court documents) and spent at least half their week campaigning, but their boss in the room down the hall had no idea? He's either criminally incompetent or completely corrupt. I say both.
peopl here in Wisconsin are definitely pushing for walker and his group to be ousted. it's a shame that those that signed the petitions did not follow through and vote. this state has yet to see the damage the he has created!
Why would the Republicans be shredding documents if not to cover up wrong doing? Someone needs to go to jail in order to stop this pattern of behavior.
bussed in from where? people here in Wisconsin are definitely pushing for walker and his group to be ousted. this state has yet to see the damage the he has created!
Only time.will.tell on what you say the evidence will tell the truth in the end and if it comes out that it is true fire his ass and put someone else in office that will be honest and true too all the people.
Dear Anonymous "Not Exactly," as a Wisconsin resident for the last 39 years, I disagree that "..most people here are not against the gov...." in part because over a million people signed the recall petitions, and Republicans did not win the state national or state elections in 2012, and the only reason we have a Republican majority in the state legislature is entirely due to the redistricting which is the subject of this article. His school choice plan is not going to fly even with his own party, and the only reason they passed the mining bill in the Senate was that the Republicans and their Koch brothers spent millions to defeat Sen. Jess King in Oshkosh. Polls following the recall election indicated that some voters believed that no politician should be recalled unless they commit a crime while in office, not that the "gov" enjoys widespread support. The pro-Walker voter I spoke to on the eve of the recall election was as poorly informed as many Walker supporters about the consequences of getting rid of unions (his family had no health insurance after he lost his union job where he had insurance). Wisconsin is 44th nationally in job creation, which was Scott Walker's big campaign promise. He thinks he's got a national future, which is why he's rarely in the state and even less often in the Capitol, and doesn't really give a hoot about us here in Wisconsin. His rejection of high speed rail and Medicaid funds is costing us big time, both in jobs and actual health care dollars, but looks good to his Tea Party fans.
some people don't recognize when they are getting screwed because they can't see the big picture. They focus on the bread crumbs thrown to them and the splitting done with hate that confuses them. Reducing everyone's income so few can buy the goods and products in Wisconsin is poor governance. Renewed a contract for ginseng; so what. He could have done that on the phone as he talked with the fake Koch. Gotta wonder if his trip was really to discuss Wisconsin farmland sales to foreigners so our farmers can become tenants and rent it back. Think the locals can compete with China's money to buy land? Look what he wants to do to the Wisconsin landscape with unrestricted mining. Walker made it clear he wanted to lift the restrictions on foreign owned land in Wisconsin. I have found no one in favor of actually selling Wisconsin to foreigners except perhaps Walker and his administration, and puppet republican legislators. Oddly, Republican Governor Brandstad of Iowa was also recently in China on a trade trip; more farmland for sale perhaps? Finally, I also wonder if the positive comment here isn't really someone who works for Walker. Most of the people in Wisconsin are wising up; there are always a few slow learners perhaps but it will come too late for them.
You don't have the first clue about what happened during the protests or what "most" people in WI think......please don't deign to speak for those who can actually think for themselves....
"it was largely the Dem busing people in from out of state (namely IL)" is such hogwash. I was there, there were farmers police and firefighters and local Wisconsinites. More fiction, from those that wish to taint one of the largest protests at the state capitol on record. Bussed in from IL is such a a complete load of unadulterated crap, how many busses would it take to get over 100,000 people from IL?
Of course, there was no Koch money or out of state interests involved getting him re-elected, all of his support came from hard working Wisconsinites and their millions of small dollar contributions.... NOT!
I laugh at all these scholars who want to cut spending yet we somehow 'sweep under the rug' the 1/2 TRILLION we spend on the military, 10 times what anyone else spends EVERY F^^^$$ING YEAR.
