The New Yorker is hardly journalism at work???? Obviously you do not read it, nor have you read the work of Jane Meyer. Nor have you read the article in the New Yorker, as the issue is less what Koch is up to and more the sucking up to him that WNET management did.

Seeing the "stop-specific-voters" attempts on the part of Republican majority states during the past election and still now trying to sneak the legislation into being - I am convinced that the current 1% and their cronies in power are determined to restore the country back to pre-1920-thereabouts voting and make sure that those they consider 'ignorant' (some of them are!) do not have any right to vote for anyone that is not in support of their agenda. We all know what happens when any group are the 'chosen ones' - they automatically begin to think of themselves as special, with God-given rights to the level they are at, and look down on anyone not in their group as not-deserving of the same consideration.
We probably would all be doing exactly the same thing ourselves, BUT that does not make it ok ! We need to make sure those who are foolish enough to think they are part of the chosen ones also (because they vote for them?) get an education asap in what the chosen ones are REALLY up to - you low-level Repubs will suddenly find yourselves with no rights
and it will all be entirely YOUR fault !!!!
I guess that is when the country types get their guns out and start fighting, and they will need to fight their own party, not the Dems !!
They are so dumb, they don't even realise who their enemies really are !!
Why invest in a service in which people like the Koch Brothers own a controlling interest? PBS is "public" in name only. The spillover to the affiliates who suckle from PBS and carry its programming is also corrosive.
Time to call your representatives, and your local PBS affiliates, and raise hell.
I know you must need a boogeyman and all, but you have to realize that not all of those things are the same. The Cato Institute has long had a poor relationship with the Ayn Rand Institute, because they don't believe the same things. The people promoting Ayn Rand are the Wall Street and Silicon Valley types and wannabes with delusions of grandeur, who believe they are heroes holding up the world, and haven't yet figured out that Michael Douglas's character in a certain '80s movie directed by Oliver Stone was supposed to be the bad guy.
I'm opposed to some basic tenets of libertarian philosophy, but as a whole, most libertarians are not that bad, compared to the people who still dominate the Republican Party. I'd prefer it to getting fundamentalist morality forced on me, a police state, or perpetual war to Americanize the world, to say the least.
Seriously, you're taking this rich guy and his brother, and making them the supreme evil responsible for all of the ills the U.S. faces, when I'm sure they probably have more than a few views that a lot of you agree with. The collective decisions of the very wealthy as a class, perhaps, but one or two dudes are not the problem you're looking for.

Moreover, anything that is genetically modified to create a replacement product for something natural is by definition a "band aid fix." Calling the consumption of hemp seeds a band aid fix is propagandistic truth twisting.

These lying cowards are corrupt to their very marrow and will NOT prosecute those who caused the financial meltdown even though they know each and everyone one of these criminals by name. The problem is that BREUR and HOLDER used to work with a lot of these criminals BEFORE they went to work at the DOJ. Now BREUER has gone back to work with his criminal friends THE DAY AFTER PBS' FRONTLINE REVEALED HIS HYPOCRISY TO THE WORLD but not before chastising PBS and FRONTLINE for having had the gall to EXPOSE HIS HYPOCRISY, INAPTITUDE, AND OUTRIGHT lies on national TV. Why else would BREUER leave the DOJ if what PBS's FRONTLINE reported was NOT true. These high rolling lawyers, their Bank CEO buddies, and many members of the US government ARE THE NEW ROYALS! The Brits are still romantically holding on to their royals while the French got it right and got rid of theirs. Isn't it time that Americans EXPOSE and JAIL these new royals who have brought the country down to its knees? PBS and FRONTLINE had the balls and the guts to go after these manipulating morons. The first thing to point out is the writer of this article has a clearly obvious agenda: they don't like the idea of requiring food stamp users to make healthy choices. That being said, I think we are discussing three issues: personal freedom in the context of being dependent on the state, and cost.
First, cost: I'm sure the options listed... free range, organic, etc. are limited are because they are much more expensive. I wonder if the average American has the resources to get the higher-end foods listed there...I clearly don't. I would love to buy organic free-range type food, but I buy white eggs and standard milk simply because I have finite resources. Which brings me to the second point, personal freedom in the context of being dependent on the state: If the average citizen cannot afford these products, why should those on food stamps use funds forcefully taken from the average citizen to purchase them? Obviously, this is inherently unfair, unethical, and must be avoided at all costs. The cost/benefit to purchasing these options is also highly uncertain. How much healthier will I be buying brown eggs vs white eggs? If that's really a concern for people, they should SUPPORT a bill which doesn't let people purchase junk food. Junk is far worse for people than the questionable benefits (especially considering the cost) for organic/free range/non-GMO.

You don't know much about this guy or his evil brother. They own the Libertarians, Reason Foundation, Cato, Heritage, Americans for Prosperity, ALEC and half a dozen other far right groups. He gets singled out because his groups have done so damn much damage. Every one of the groups that he supports pushes an extreme right wing agenda based on AYN RAND's crackpot ideas. Their policies have caused the resegregation of a school in NC., horrible poverty in half a dozen states...the pipeline debacle and more.
It's true. Ask PBS. It's actually not even available to PBS to air. They had a grant from ITVS to produce the film, which they did. ITVS has never had a contract with, nor did they make a promise to, the producers to air this, and PBS has had no conversations with the producers.. PBS airs sensitive, provocative content all the time (The Invisible War, Park Avenue, As Goes Janesville, all of Frontline, etc). So why did the producers take this approach? Sadly, the film is reportedly not very good, this media blitz ensures people will watch it. Get your facts straight, The New Yorker is hardly journalism at work.
The Koch Brothers are determined to overthrow the Government via political means that is destroying democracy with their money. They are trying to manipulate and silence the press to spread more propaganda to further their cause by purchasing news papers. I am sadden and disappointed that PBS would relent to appeasing them by not airing the Documentary. If the Koch's were proud of themselves and their reputation, they shouldn't have had any objections to the airing. But, I imagine that they aren't as happy with themselves even with having all of (T)hat money at their disposal? Maybe it's true, "money can't buy you love!" Is it true?
Thank you for setting the record straight. These fellows are a terrible example of donors to worthwhile causes. They make it look like they care, but it seems they only want control. It makes me cringe every time I see a PBS show and their names come up as sponsors...
You have got to be kidding me!! Bill and Melinda gates are using their foundation to try to eliminate polio from the planet and to support a wide variety of health initiatives. The only political fight I am aware of the gates family being engaged in was the 2010 voter initiative in WA state to create an income tax to minimize the damage of decreasing revenues in health and social services in their home state. Comparing them to David Koch is like comparing Mahatma Gandhi to Hitler.
