An Alternative to Capitalism (since we cannot legislate morality)
Several decades ago, Margaret Thatcher claimed: "There is no alternative". She was referring to capitalism. Today, this negative attitude still persists.
I would like to offer an alternative to capitalism for the American people to consider. Please click on the following link. It will take you to my essay titled: "Home of the Brave?" which was published by the Athenaeum Library of Philosophy:
Bravo to the above poster. You have nailed it! And we must take our State Back! Thank you for seeing things as they really are.
At 58, single and self-supporting all my life I too am experiencing in the last couple of years financial distress due to employment issues beyond my control. I have had to access unemployment the last several years, I am underemployed and working multiple part-time jobs. Monday I learned I would not be collecting the benefits I expected to receive this summer despite my understanding and paperwork indicating I would be..........and just like the article states, under trained over zealous adjudicators providing untimely and erroneous responses that I now have to live with that put me in a more extreme situation unexpectedly. This is sickening and it has to stop. What the hell is going on in this once great State of ours?
It is worth highlighting as well what happened when Gov. Scott Walker began to sell off Wisconsin public properties and contracts to private industry. Among other things, a private contractor in late 2012 caused [http://host.madison.com/news/local/ask/catching-up/catching-up-capitol-marble-floor-damage-could-cost/article_d5a6579e-9a00-11e2-9c08-001a4bcf887a.html $20,000] in damage to the treasured State Capitol marble floor by allowing battery acid to spill onto the floor. It would figure that Local 1 of the first AFSCME union in America represents the dwindling public sector workers in the Capitol.
Finally people are allowed to protect themselves. I have kids, if you are on my proerty and stumbling towards meim not waiting to find out your intentions. Certainly I would give 1 verbal warning...but you will get no warning shots.if I have to point my gun at you, your getting shot. Moral of the story is don't hide in my house, don't break into my car, don't ask me for a lighter under sketchy circumstances, in fact, stay at home when you drink!
I'm all for self-defense, but if my friend told me someone was trying to steal the radio out of my car, I'd call the police. If a "Defend Your Ground" law makes it ok to grab a knife, run out the door, chase that person down the street, and stab him to death in the back, then obviously there's something very wrong with the way the law is written. If just one person can get away with that, then that law needs to be revised. The law doesn't save lives, people who act responsibly save lives, and murderers shouldn't be protected under any "Stand Your Ground" law.
I too went to my State Farm provider to ask about ALEC. Those responding to me said they didn't know about it. I gave them time to check it out--nice gals doing a good job. But State Farm didn't budge and I left them.
DDT was, I believe the first synthetic pesticide. Somebody can find what happened with this staff circulating in environment. One of the lessons what was from this DDT story was that the future pesticide cannot be stable and have to decompose quickly. Other conclusion was very simple to rich - the pesticide should be spread at time when the pollinators (at least daily pollinator – honeybee - is not working). The farmers were obligated to use pesticides after sunset. Now seems to be the lesson of DDT was forgotten by Monsanto, Bayer, Syngenta etc. They went to Bt and Neonicotinoids inserts into plants bodies. They were probably assuming that the inserts will be eaten by humans and it is the end of the pesticide travel and end of a problem. Wrong, the Neonicotinoids are circulating and remain in environment harming non-target invertebrates, birds and fish. In the same meaner Neonicotinoids are invasive synthetic compound as DDT. Such DDT like stable pesticide should be mark for the future as the unacceptable idea. There is a smart idea; IPM (Integrated Pest Management) which give some time to rest the environment from synthetic blow. This technique was born on the base of chemical resistance reaction from pests (like is the Varroa example). It assumes use synthetics only when necessary and not the same for 5 years. Any other time (if possible) it should be use organic/natural pesticides like formic acid. Such 5 year plan based on observation, practice and wise judgment is not easy or comfortable, but it is absolutely necessary for surviving natural and balanced environment. Please do not assume I am supporting synthetic (unnatural) pesticides in any way. I prefer using minimum of organic pesticide in IPM manner only; Thought it cost me a time, energy etc. I encourage others to give up their comfort from the "scientific ideas" of big chemical corporations.
oh reeeeally? just foreigners? so, by foreigners, do you mean people who LOOK foreign, or people who were born somewhere else? so does this mean that if you were born in america, no matter your color or language, you don't mix deer meat in with your meat? i wonder how you get this idea?
Your comments do not reflect the reality of actually working with patients infected with prion diseases, nor, do they reflect the possible mutations or variations which may occur spontaneously and shift the transmission rate rather quickly in human or animal populations. Whether writing about early Kuru in Indonesia to current Deer Wasting in Wisconsin, the public should be made aware of all aspects of this terrible disease. Your information presents as if you are employed or wish to be employed by big agriculture. Do you live in Wisconsin? Does your family live in Wisconsin? Would you let your children eat deer that has been hunted and killed in the wilds of Wisconsin? Why? I can not refrain from telling readers that it is very difficult to have humans or animals tested for prion diseases because laboratories can not decontaminate testing items or surface areas. Only temperatures above 450F can kill prions. Most surgical autoclaves do not produce temperatures this high, not alone standard laboratories. For this reason England was using disposable surgical trays to remove certain soft tissues such as tonsils. Is this being done in the United States? Furthermore, if you can only test one deer out of possibly ten deers that you suspect of having a prion disease because of testing challenges, then the public is being exposed to further unnecessary dangers. It can take twenty years for a prion disease to come to fruition, meaning the manifestations of the first symptoms becoming visible to the sheer horror of family, friends and loved ones. I suggest reading "A Deadly Feast" because it is one of the oldest books written about prion diseases before distortion and hubris was added to the mix. For that matter, perform a video search for patients dying of a prion disease and watch in horror. The last time I saw a video showing this on television was over fifteen years ago and you have to ask yourself, why?
What about espionage? Where does that fit in and what does that mean exactly? If you find fraudulent information and expose it I suppose that's espionage too. Where the frick did that come from!? More rules to cover corruption. Wow.
...and I'm cleaning house. I keep a printout handy of the list of ALEC's corporate sponsors as well as ALEC legislators. My family has made drastic changes over the past two years as to where we shop and what products we buy. The corporations supporting ALEC also throw massive funding at extremists during elections and in doing so are doing much more damage than simply hitching their wagons to the Koch enterprise.
We haven't stepped foot into Walmart in years, nor Best Buy (for reasons not associated with ALEC), we no longer stop in at Wendys or McDonalds (we make it a point to eat at local, non-franchise, restaurants). We've refinanced our home and now have a mortgage with a reliable credit union where we do all of our banking. Kraft Food is out thanks to it' use of GMO products, and we no longer purchase Coke or Pepsi products, etc. etc.
Our boycott list had grown so long that we decided to make a new list limiting ourselves to businesses we felt exhibited some ethics. It was tough at first, but now it’s become second nature.
So far as possible, we're making the changes necessary to reflect our displeasure with irresponsible business practices. We are not amused by ALEC and it's vision for America nor are we willing to participate in a corporate takeover over of government. They’ve taken this far enough already.
Thanks CMD for dragging ALEC into the light. I’ve been posting links to alecexposed.com for years. Your work is amazing.
I do not hear much complaint about multi national corporations taking over our public schools. The major objective is to make money and train young children for a planned global workforce, The Common Core, the latest in education will dumb down children and most will be placed in the "service" economy. Only about 30% will go to college which means, in all probability, only the ones with wealthy parents or the charter school owners. The large foundations, such as Gates, is funding this but he ownes Microsoft that stands to make billions off the schools in the long run.
P. S. What happened to the book I ordered some time ago? I hope he was able to get it published. I sent the money and a donation to your ogranization. Thanks, and keep up the good work. Ann
My local newspaper, The Oregonian, reported on the deaths of 50,000 bees in a Target parking lot this week, but without naming the manufacturer of the neonicotinoid responsible.
Apparently Bayer and Syngenta are the neonicotinoid makers. Together with Monsanto they support a PR regime that runs counter to public health and to fact.
Agriculture newspapers in the US, (and it is peculiar to read the news from the small towns next to the ads from these multinationals), have done a wonderful job of keeping farmers in the dark about what genetic modification is, imparting to farmers the conviction that genetic engineering is the same as hybridization and that those who say otherwise are the wrong sort of people.
Our journalists are similarly confused about whether crops are modified to resist insects or resist glyphosate.
The insight that the letter writer "thync" has given us is that while these companies appear to be competitors, they have split their product lines so that they are free to support each other.
PS: I am not a rabid hater. I do suggest that thync is "projecting", or encouraging others who may read this website to project hatred, if they are afflicted with it.
I'm carefully going through the listing of ALEC supporters and culling them out of my patronage until such time as they dump ALEC. May mean having to pay a little more in some instances, but ALEC is an evil organization and it's immoral to support it with my purchases.
I dumped State Farm which I've had for decades when the corporate response to my concern was that ALEC helped keep insurance rates down. Liked my agent, but could not support the corporation's support of ALEC. Got rid of automobile and property insurance and recommended same to family and friends.
I remember when Roe vs. Wade - what legalized abortion - had not yet been passed. When women with money would simply fly to a country where they could have an abortion, vs. the "coat-hanger" abortions, which killed women who were raped, or who couldn't afford raising a child, more than just eliminating the fetus. If this country provided funds for both child-care, and an adequate minimum wage that did not require food stamps, this discussion would be very different...
You miss or willfully dismiss the point: the woman is practicing within a highly secretive organization whose mission is to "circumvent representative government, certainly not to strengthen it. Then, blatantly lies, in effort to cover her tracks while earnestly pushing forward a vicious, extreme right-wing/corporate agenda, that is so far proved to be egregiously anti-citizen.
The fellow you replied to should be allowed the use of cannibus to ease suffering brought about by his condition. No politician regardless of party affiliation has the moral authortiy to block a form of treatment known to provide relief from the deleterious effects of an illness.
Furthermore, I hold my rights as a citizen dear and sacred, since without them I have no voice. I strongly suggest you re-assess the actions of ALEC members and whose position in society - they're "really" concerned for. I'm confident that after further review, you'd find it sure as heck -aint you.
There are many documented cases of stand your ground laws that have been credited with saving lives through the use of firearms. There is little mention of these instances, although there seems to be a certain fondness for denigrating the surviving victims(s) of these instances while calling for sympathy for the perpetrators. The basic law should be, was the person using force under stand your ground in danger according to the specific of the law in his case. If a legitimate threat is perceived, then use of whatever force is necessary to eliminate the threat should be allowed. This should not mean that the victim should be able to legally chase a perpetrator down the street to shoot him. If there is a person intent on harming another, who is engaged in threatening behavior which might be construed as life threatening, then the victim of these actions should have the full weight of the law to support him in defending his or her life, and the lives and wellbeing of those in his charge. When these rights are stripped, the victim has less rights than his attacker, and violence against the innocent will thrive.
I will be changing providers and will encourage all my friends and relatives to do the same. Businesses should not attempt to take over governments on any level - lobbyists are bad enough!
Here is a plan, the conservative alliance wants to roll back to a time prior to the 14th amendment then ok we do that by corrective those defective amendments.
* All Rights of natural people, born or naturalized as citizens shall not be infringed.
* No State may pass any law which changes nor adapts the definition of natural born nor deny rights of natural born people to naturalized citizens.
* Every natural born person or naturalized citizen has the right to vote in a matter that does not imped nor restrict their daily life, these are to be counted as one person one vote.
* All legal entities or legal fictions, existing not by natural birth but by operations of state statutes as the creations of the law, are always subservient to that law.
By tying these to "rights" then those can defined and expanded beyond what we now call "rights" since there may come a time when we as human beings have to define as a right the very air we breath or the water we drink.
We also define naturalized citizens as such because again there may become a time in the future where some entities such as artificially intelligent entities need to be defined with rights as citizens, yet at the same time contain the voting right to one person one vote vs multiple copies of an entity which operates cooperatively to place multiple votes.
The statement of impeding daily life addresses the 8hrs of waiting in line just to fill out a ballot when and speed up the adoption of electronic voting.
The defining of natural born and denying rights of natural born to citizens addresses the current immigration issues and the fetus / abortion issues.
The legal entities statement once again places the yoke of law over corporations.
