Hard-Hitting TV Ads Push to Overturn Citizens United

For many years now, the Center for Media and Democracy has joined with Public Citizen, Common Cause, People for the American Way, Move to Amend, Free Speech for the People, and other good government and grassroots groups in an effort to build momentum to overturn the Citizens United Supreme Court decision with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Through countless collective and individual efforts, we are on a roll. In total, 16 states and roughly 500 communities have asked Congress to initiate the process of overturning Citizens United by amending our constitution. The Nation magazine dubbed it the "most successful and uncovered" political movement in America.

Now, in Los Angeles, California, a group of media, advertising and entertainment pros are putting their shoulder to the wheel with hard-hitting TV ads premised solely on the need to amend the Constitution to fix our broken political campaign finance system.

Their first provocative ad shows new Senators in the U.S. Congress being sworn in. It all seems very ho-hum until you see them raise their right hand and pledge to represent their biggest private and corporate donors. It starkly demonstrates the harsh realities of America's corrupt campaign finance system that has done incalculable damage to the wellbeing of our nation and its citizens. Watch it on the right.

These advertisements were run in Los Angeles recently when voters approved Ballot Measure C, which called for a Constitutional Amendment to overturn Citizens United, with 77% of the vote.

The Koch Brothers won't be funding these ads. The team producing them wants to be ready to run them in many more states and cities, but they can't do it without help.

Hard-Hitting Ad?

Mediocre ad is more like it. Can barely understand what they're saying. Makes it look like Joe Biden is in collusion with them.
