the futility of determining the "right" regime
The take-over of Iraq reminds me -- at least somewhat --- of the situation of many countries in Europe during World War II.
The people of these countries were often put in positions where they had to feign an allegiance to either the Nazis or the Communists in order to survive, and to not be written off as a "dangerous" enemy of "the state."
Each regime had its own proclivities and particularities. One was often seen as a welcome relief from the other (depending on one's individual perspective and viewpoint). Each was seen as a welcome relief from the other regime, until their own set of monotonies set in, and reality once again dawned.
In the end, each regime proved itself to be none other than highly imperfect apparatuses devised by cunning humans in order to deceive and control their world.
And how long can the sun bear to rise yet again on humanity? These are the days of our lives.
