This tax is yet more foolishness that will not have the desired impact. Blame the politicians for bailing out the bankers, and for liquoring them up with easy money and moral hazard. The bankers just took advantage of the system that Congress created. The best way to proceed from here on out is to not bail out any more companies, and remove all government guarantees backing their risky behavior. Let them risk their own asses, and leave us off the hook please.
What about those people like myself who struggle to get by - living paycheck to paycheck - who's company has a stock purchase program? I use these stocks just to try and catch up every 6 months and now they want to tax people like me to dip more into the little money I have? What happened to "if you make less than $200k, your taxes won't go up"? Did everyone forget about that already? How about adding a penalty tax to the businesses who gave out bonuses to executives if they received any money from the government? I didn't ask for these companies to be saved - they did and they are the ones who should be penalized.
Instead of promoting development of a delivery system for ingesting the active ingredient of tobacco, which has recognized beneficial effects (along with some deleterious side effects, like most biologically effective pharmaceuticals), independently of the wizards brew of carcinogenic hydrocarbons that form from combustion of the tobacco and various additives, anti-smoking zealots demonize tobacco company attempts to accomplish that goal while they persist in milking the revenue stream from sale of the "dangerous" delivery system for statist programs.
Yes, we want to end Evil Tobacco, but in the meantime, let's tax the snot out of the smokers and sue the pants off the manufacturers to get more money for doing well by doing good. Surely some of the booty acquired thereby will stick to our fingers so we can run largely ineffective "don't smoke" programs, even if our rapacious state legislators divert most of it to their pet pork projects, like they do with the "For Education" state lotteries and other schemes for preying on the devotees of magical thinking.
" .... raising concerns about political impartiality for the nation’s highest court. Although Americans generally expect justices to be politically neutral and judicial rules prohibit judges from participating in political activity, those rules don’t extend to spouses, and a justice’s decision to recuse him or herself from a case is theirs alone."
Only the historically innocent can harbor any such illusions of political neutrality, Especially in recent decades, long since progressive judge nominee roasting campaigns which have added Borking to the vocabulary, it takes real chutzpah for one of them to post cheap shots like this. Read a little history, fellow. Here's a good place to start:
"The appointment of Frankfurter and other political liberals and progressives, many believed, would transform the Court. It didn't, and the reason why it didn't aids us in understanding the perceptions about and of the Court today."
"During the 1950s and early 1960s, Frankfurter's vision of judicial restraint appeared increasingly out of step with a majority of the Court."
The 'transformation' expected in the 1940's was delayed until the 1950's and after, but it is simply mendacious to suggest that the public still expects judges to rule in a politically neutral fashion, after decades of intense campaigning by all sides to achieve the exact opposite, as their political inspiration, FDR, had attempted a bit prematurely to do.
Your problem is obvious, the tea parties are effective and this bothers you. I'm an over the road truck driver and organized two events with the help of two of my children. I know you don't like hearing this but it's the truth, I understand that's something you just don't know about. People like myself however do understand how you follow George Soros and his cronies. We are grassroots leaders not followers.
Obviously, you haven't attended any tea parties, I organized two of them last year, and at both of them George Bush and the Republican machine was directly called out for their misuse of public funds and several other reasons. I suggest you come out from behind your little computer screen and attend one of these events. We simply believe in our constitution and the limited powers granted to the federal government. These tea parties are also here to protect your rights, so please attend one. I'm an over the road truck driver, so I know if I can not only organize a tea party but also attend, then surely you can find the time.
Well, lets see...we went to war under false pretensions (lies).
we stayed there under false pretensions (lies to deliver democracy),
so what makes us think those there will send home truth, especially
when there are corporations making billions the longer we stay in these countries.

Forgetting, if you will about what was done during the Bush Administration, but looking at the Obama time frame, the Treasure claims a sizeable profit.
i don't think you reported this with accuracy from the view of who was responsible for what.
Thom responded that we "all have to die of something". Unfortunately, those who die from smoking - about 1/2 of all those who smoke chronically - will die of a disease related to their smoking. And they will die, on average, 14 years earlier than those who do not smoke. Not to mention costing all of us billions of dollars to treat their tobacco-related illnesses. (Overall, smoking related illness costs the U.S. slightly less than $100 B for health care.) And for every person who dies of a tobacco-related illness, twenty will be hospitalized with a smoking-related illness. So, yeah, Thom - go smoke your cigarettes - but could you NOT use tax or insurance dollars to treat your smoking-related illnesses so the rest of us don't have to pick up part of the tab?
whats free about obama-care ,who will pay for it ? you strike me as an educated man that would remodel a house without knowing how much it costs. I guess you would let the contractor do whatever he wants ....no no you dont need to know the plans ...we will just do it and then you will find out what it looks like . or as the speaker of the house says " we need to pass it then we can see whats in it "?? refering to health care of course. Lets also throw in a government run student loan program ...what did that have to do with health care ? really ??
I think this is a great idea. I know there are a few companies out there but we need to create a non-profit to compete with the health insurance giants.
The news about NATO admitting a role in the deaths of two pregnant woman in a botched Special Operations raid February 12, has led me to ask for assistance for these poor women's children and families!
As a current pregnant woman, the admission of this travesty has brought anger, confusion, etc. but what I want to DO most of all is to try and get as many pregnant mothers, expecting couples, ANYBODY together to collect sympathy cards to these poor children and families!
Please, Americans, let's show these victims and their families that we care and are NOT like the perpetrators of these crimes, but that we have compassion and do CARE for their loved ones at this dark time!
Please contact me at: ShowThemWeCare@gmail.com if you would like to help or contribute!
You're only partially correct... The deficit more than doubled under Bush due to:
1. Bush's 2001 unfunded tax cut (1.8 trillion)
2. Bush's 2003 unfunded tax cut (700 billion)
3. The Iraq War, also unfunded and off-budget (800 billion and counting)
4. Medicare Part D, unfunded (600 billion)
So big tax cuts primarily for the wealthiest in our society, combined witht the largest unfinded expansion of entitlements in 4 decades, combined with 2 unfunded wars... and there you are. Huge spending and a global war on terror with no sacrifice back home except "go shopping"!
That's funny. I realize that thousands of Americans make their living disposing of waste material everyday, and millions of Americans benefit from the fine work they do, but to become a lobbyist for the sewage industry has to be a ding on the ol' resume. No joke about the pay.
"If we assume that mankind has the right to exist, then we must find an alternative to war and destruction. In our day of space vehicles and guided ballistic missiles, the choice is either nonviolence or nonexistence."
Martin Luther King
That's what I love about this guy! American history is littered with "Christian" religious leaders. Try as you might, you can't escape them. The thing that sets the right, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. apart from most of these guys is the fact that he wasn't a hypocrite. He never tried to twist the words of Jesus of Nazareth into anything other than what they were - a call to love one another and for kindness and gentleness. The Trappist monk Thomas Merton is another celebrated American Christian who took the gospel seriously. So was Dorothy Day, the founder of the Catholic Worker. Give me a week and I might be able to name one or two others, but at the moment none come to mind. Both Merton and King died in 1968. Dorothy Day left this veil of tears in 1980. They're gone and they're not coming back.
There are a lot of people today doing what Dr. King did - in reverse. They are the Anti-Kings - or as I like to call them - the Martin Loony Kings. In his time on earth, King sought to appeal to the nation's conscience - to all that was good and (unfortunately at times) hidden in the American character. Today there are national spokespersons galore who would be happy to undo all the good work he did. Their stated purpose is to appeal to the darker demons of our nature. It's working. The number of people out there who seriously believe that our African American President is a "foreign born, Socialist Muslim" is growing by the day. The gullibility of so many Americans truly astounds. Would you like a little cyanide with your a cup of tea, ma'am?
I would like to say that following up with the act would be the answer however you only defer interst or redce interest on entire bal while in active duty and still required to make at least a mdu paymnt on the credit card for purchases that were made before active duty. I also believe that if you are eligible for any adjustmnts because of the delay if entitled to any fee adjustments -which is unlikely, the credit bureau is not required to be adjusted as there was no docs to support active duty during this period. Now if the credits or adjustmnts were enough to bring the account current it would adjust reporting moving fowrd based on becoming current with the credits being applied to the acct but previous effects to the credit bureau have already been made and no considerations are made for adjustments unless it was a bank error and by that i mean it would have to be documented that previous correspondence was received for military leave b4 the actual occurence and the company oversighted adjustmnts to your acct in error.
Couldn't have said it better and couldn't agree more...

I'd like to propose a minor revised version of your last chant that we can sing to Wall Street.
"Hey, Wall Street, its not fair, its time to pay for your fair share!"
Chant it to the rhythm of "Oh, Ricky, your so fine, your so fine you blow my mind." This version flows off the tongue better.
Jobs for Justice are commies.
VOTE REPUBLICAN.
That actually makes sense when you think about it.
