MASSIVE CAPITOL "SIGN-IN"

Event Date: Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 8:00am

Event Website: FaceBook Event Page

Taking place at:
Wisconsin State Capitol

Madison, WI

From FaceBook:

I have known about the new rules put into place by the current Department of Administration, under Walker, at the Capitol-- the excessive security screenings, the grocery list of ridiculous banned items, and the "designated protest area," outside of which protesting is banned.

Over the last few days I've seen Segway Jeremy Ryan post about his mounting citations for holding signs in the Capitol outside of this zone. Yesterday I went to the Capitol and witnessed it myself. Then I saw the video here of Melissa Sargent getting a ticket for supporting her children as they exercised their First Amendment rights: PLEASE WATCH. Enough! This is ludicrous!

Join me, Tuesday, for a massive demonstration, a "Sign-in". I plan on being at the Capitol when it opens and staying as long as possible. It takes the police several hours to produce a ticket (they really don't want to enforce it) and they warn you 1-4 times before giving a citation. Jeremy Ryan believes that multiple ticket-holders are running the risk of arrest now, but, because this is clearly a violation of the Constitution, there is a flimsy, but oh-so-important legal fight to win. If you can, plan on staying as long as possible. If you can only make it briefly, PLEASE COME to show support!

I'll bring some supplies, but please bring more! The more, the better! Bring your kids! Bring everyone you know!

Please leave sign ideas in the Comments! Here are some of mine:
sign saying "SIGN"
"FREE SPEECH"
"CIVIL RIGHT"
"A government, for protecting business only, is but a carcass..."
"EMPOWER and PROTECT the PEOPLE"

Got any better ones?
