What: Latino Parent Association and Immigrant Workers Union Press Conference will address public employees and meaningful funding for public education.  After the press conference, Latino Parent Association and Immigrant Workers Union will address the board for public comments, if available.

Who: Latino Parents in HS Lafallete has been fighting for years to have a
Bi-cultural and Bilingual Social Worker for the Latino Community.
However, both HS principal and MMSD board have been using the budget
cuts as an excuse to not create the new position.

Why: To ask for a Bilingual and Bi-cultural Social Worker, Support Public Employees and Teachers and show opposition to new charter schools until public schools receive all necessary funding.

Also, the parents wants to express their support to teachers and public employees in their struggle for public education and union rights.

They want to raise awareness that the latest attack to  real and meaningful funding for public education comes in the form of new charter legislation and a constallation of new charter proposals that "instead address the problems in our education system they try to degrees efforts and money from public schools" -  says Manuel Fuentes - " We need money and we need it in our schools where parents and students are trying to build a productive partnership with the current administration. It is like in our school, we need a bi cultural and bilingual social worker, why the MMSD would give money to a private enterprise before satisfy the needs that we currently have in each school? we wonder what are the priorities of the MMSD's nowadays" continues Manuel Fuentes president of HS Lafallette Latino Parent Associations in response of plans by GOP  to eliminate road blocks for the creation of new charter schools which "we understand as the creation of private non unionized charters schools that will only benefit those who already have money leaving minorities and low income families with less chances to have a fair and quality education" says Juliana  Solis.
