you start by realizing your Opinion and/or Belief is one of many, and that the many don't always see eye to eye.
Then you Understand that the other Opinions and/or Beliefs have as much right to exist as yours does.
Then through public, non-partison, unbiased, nondiscrimitory open debate a Compromise can be reached that will, if not satisfy, at least bennefit all parties involved.
The key to a good Compromise is that NOBODY leaves the table happy, but EVERYBODY leaves the table feeling they were heard and understood
